The MS Challenge

For the fourth year running a team from AGS Security Systems Limited have entered and successfully completed the gruelling MS Challenge!

The object of the MS Challenge is for a team to navigate a demanding course over about 10 kilometres using orienteering type instructions, taking with them a person who has Multiple Sclerosis in a wheelchair. This gives the person with MS the chance to enjoy the sort of fun which is not normally available to them, while raising money for the Chester MS Support Centre which is based in Saltney.

Well, that’s the ‘official description’ but it doesn’t mention the hills, midges, bogs, swamps, tears or tantrums! Or, what a fantastically fulfilling and uplifting experience the MS Challenge is.

This year’s fancy dress theme was “Pirates” and with plenty of aarghs, shiver me timber’s, splice the main brace (not to mention the double entendres!), a tiring, fun and rewarding time was had by all. This year’s total amount raised by our team was a fantastic £2,251.45 (the most raised on the day by any team, we’re proud to announce!) – Wahey!

Running costs at the Centre are approximately £210,000 a year, and the Centre is dependent on fund raising events such as the MS Challenge. Multiple Sclerosis is typically diagnosed in the 20’s and 30’s age group and can be very disabling, affecting 1 in 1000 people in the UK. The MS Support Centre offers help, advice and therapies such as oxygen, physiotherapy and counselling, not only to the person affected but also to those close to them.

We would like to thank all who took part and all of those who contributed by way of sponsorship. You can reach the MS Support Centre at mssupport@btinternet.com
